Title: CupCarbon-IA: Toward a digital twin for the validation of IA algorithms in smart-city applications

Abstract: CupCarbon is a Wireless Sensor Network and IoT simulator dedicated to smart-cities. It is planned to develop a new plugin to deal with the Digital twin IoT of car traffic and security while using IA techniques. In this keynote, we will present the future architecture of CupCarbon allowing to design Digital Twins of any smart-city system. The main structure of this tool is based on the MQTT protocol to import data from many web services and platforms like the SMUO simulator to simulate mobility as well as communication scenarios in order to export the obtained data to a super computer. The same protocol will be used to receive the processed results. This will allow to significantly accelerate calculations, and to avoid the integration of additional and complex modules directly into CupCarbon, which can make it slow. This system will allow to find the best way of cooperation between real services of existing systems and infrastructures to guarantee optimal solutions for the society, like for instance, finding the best trajectories for taxi traffic, ambulances, UAVs or for any other mobile system

Biography: Dr. Ahcene Bounceur is an associate professor of computer science at Lab-STICC laboratory (CNRS 6285), University of Brest, France. His current research activities are focused on: tools for parallel and physical simulation of WSNs dedicated to Smart-cities and IoT, distributed algorithms and sampling methods for Big Data mining.

Title: Data Science Between Myth and Reality

Abstract: Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract or extrapolate knowledge and insights from noisy, structured, and unstructured data, and apply knowledge from data across a broad range of application domains. Data science is related to data mining, machine learning, big data and some other concepts. Data science is a concept to unify statistics, data analysis, informatics, and their related methods to understand and analyze actual phenomena with data. It uses techniques and theories drawn from many fields within the context of mathematics, statistics, computer science, information science, domain knowledge, and so on. In this age of easy access to high-speed networks, the volume of information we come across daily through different media is enormous, but the reality is what comes across information to us most of the time has a lot of clutter added to it. People easily swipe through different sources of information blindly without verifying whether the source is trustworthy or not. Buzzwords which are totally unrelated to the topic are often used to attract people to the (mis)information, which most often ends up creating confusion among readers. This confusion and misrepresentation of information under the cover of buzzwords have a convoluted effect on a reader’s decision-making capability and takes them on a route altogether different from what they intended to. This trend can be highly visible currently in the field of Data Science as well. As Data Science evolved into the most demanding, it has been surrounded by a lot of myths and misunderstandings. In this talk, we try to highlight and dispel few myths, both for data scientists as well as for organisations.

Biography: Yahya Slimani studied at the Computer Science Institute of Alger’s (Algeria) from 1968 to 1973. He received the B.Sc. (Eng.), Dr Eng and PhD degrees from the Computer Science Institute of Alger’s (Algeria), University of Lille (French) and University of Oran (Algeria), in 1973, 1986 and 1993, respectively. He is currently Emeritus Professor at the High Institute of Art and Multimedia of University of Manouba (Tunisia). His research activities concern knowledge extraction, information retrieval, parallel and distributed systems, Grid and Cloud computing. Pr. Slimani has published more than 160 papers from 1986 to 2022. He is a distinguished editorial board member and reviewer for many scientific journals and international conferences.
